AN OVERTURNED lorry closed a busy dual carriageway for eight hours after it spilled firelighters and fuel on the road.
The A494 eastbound was closed at 2pm yesterday and traffic was diverted after the incident, which hapened close to the Sealand Roundabout in Garden City, Deeside.
Fire crews and an environmental protection unit were sent to the scene of the crash to clear a large diesel spillage.
Bright yellow boxes containing the firelighters spilled over a wall at the side of the road, and on to Welsh Road which runs alongside the A494.
The driver, in his fifties, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “An environmental protection unit from Wrexham and two fire crews from Deeside and Flint were sent to the scene. Firelighters were in the road and the vehicle was leaking fuel.”
A spokesman for North Wales Police said officers were called at about 2.15pm and closed the road until just before 10pm.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We sent a BASICS doctor, a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance to the scene.”
