MEMBERS of the Wales rugby league World Cup squad have been getting measured up ahead of the tournament’s big kick-off.
Mold outfitters Vaughan Davies is the official suit supplier to the Welsh team preparing to do battle in the competition which gets under way at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in 10 days’ time.
And members of the team visited the store for their very own ‘tale of the tape’ yesterday.
Speaking to the Leader, Martin Jones of the men’s and womenswear shop founded 70 years ago, said: “We’re delighted to be doing this. It’s tremendous to be associated with the Wales World Cup squad.
“We’ve not done too much like this before. We did help Chester FC a while back and had our logo on the shirts of the Mold U15 rugby team a few years back but we’ve got the full experience here.”
Wigan Warriors prop Gil Dudson was in the store on Tuesday morning to be measured up and was impressed.
He said: “I’m very impressed with the suits. They feel really good and look really smart.
“We can’t wait now to get down to South Wales and get the tournament under way.”
Former Wales captain and current Warrington Wolves stand-off Lee Briers is now part of the coaching set up with the Welsh national side.
He thinks the Mold retailer has given his team a great look.
“The boys will look really smart in these – we’re very impressed with the suits.
“The lads are looking forward to wearing them.”
Chirk-born team manager Bob Wilson was full of praise for the work of Vaughan Davies.
He said: “I know the shop as being a really good quality store and as I was local I just came in and asked about it.
“The guys here have been really supportive of the nation and of the team.”
