A SOCIETY that brings history to life will be able to continue its work thanks to a lottery grant.
The Samhain Welsh Medieval Society, which holds events throughout Wrexham and Flintshire, has been awarded a £7,000 Heritage Lottery Grant which means it will be able to continue delivering activities across the region, including games, sports and activities associated with life in the 14th century.
Children are able to take part in public performances under the supervision of costumed interpreters and receive certificates that aim to satisfy the Scout Association’s requirements for a Heritage Activity Badge.
Samhain’s chairman Chris Baglin said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident the project will enable us to bring history to life in an exciting way and engage people who visit heritage sites.”
The society’s aim is to recreate life in the area during the 14th century, to share knowledge and to make visits to events and heritage sites enjoyable and informative.
Jennifer Stewart, of Lottery Fund Wales, said: “Sharing Heritage is a wonderful opportunity for communities to delve into their local heritage and we are delighted to be able to offer this grant so the society can embark on a real journey of discovery.”
