FOOTAGE has been released of a car belonging to an illegal cockler being crushed.
A 16-second clip has been posted on to YouTube of a Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 at a crushers after being seized by officlals working for Natural Resources Wales.
The seized vehicle belonged to Andrew Green who was convicted of aiding and abetting illegal cockling on the Dee Estuary in January 2013.
Now Natural Resources Wales hopes the online shaming of the driver will prevent further incidents.
A spokesman said: “The cockle beds in the Dee estuary are carefully managed to make sure they can be harvested year after year.
“People who take cockles illegally are damaging the livelihood of the 53 licensed cocklers who work there legitimately.
“We do not take steps like this lightly but people who are tempted down this path should be under no illusions that the penalties can far outweigh the benefits of getting involved in this kind of illegal activity.
“These beds have been open every year now since 2008, providing a regular income for many families.
“They are a great example of how the economy and wildlife can flourish alongside each other.
“We are determined that illegal activity does not threaten this success.”
