A BEAUTY queen is looking to secure global glory.
Miss Wales Gabrielle Shaw, 19, from Wrexham, will fly to Bali on Monday 2 September, for the 63rd Miss World pageant.
Gabrielle was crowned Miss Wales 2013 in April at St David’s Hall in Cardiff.
She has spent the last few months attending special events and acting as an ambassador for the Miss World charity, Beauty With A Purpose.
Gabrielle is an accomplished singer and will be performing On My Own from the hit musical Les Miserables.
She said: “Wales is recognised as the land of song. I’m hoping to capitalise on this and use my talent for singing to help me stand out amongst all the contestants.
“On My Own is a beautiful song that’s a favourite in many countries so I’m hoping it’s a good choice.
“I’m really excited about the next few weeks. Meeting the other contestants is going to be really exciting. I know it’s going to be an experience of a lifetime.”
Retail buyer Gabrielle, who will go to London to study law in the autumn, is looking forward to spending four weeks representing Wales at the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world.
She will take part in a series of catwalk shows, photoshoots, gala dinners and personal appearances alongside contestants from around 130 countries worldwide.
Gabrielle is hoping to win herself a place in the top 15 at Miss World and is particularly keen to do well in the talent round.
Paula Abbandonato, national director for Miss Wales, said: “Gabrielle’s a superb ambassador for us with a lovely personality, great values and a beautiful singing voice.
“We’ll watch her progress with excitement and wish her luck.”
The Miss World final takes place on September 28 and will be watched by millions of viewers across the world.
