FOUR rugby fans almost missed Wales’ Six Nations triumph in Cardiff after leaving their match tickets behind.
Soon after boarding a 7.45am train on Saturday, Jon Meldrum, from Axton, near Holywell, asked his girlfriend Laura Haigh where the tickets were, and she admitted she had left them in his car at Prestatyn railway station.
Jon, 29, a hooker for Ruthin Rugby Club, thought he and his three friends had blown their chance of watching the crucial Millennium Stadium tie with England.
But then someone sitting behind them on the train said he knew of a girl from Llandudno who was travelling to Cardiff on a later train.
Jon called a friend from Prestatyn who went to his house and collected a spare set of keys to the car.
His father then picked up the tickets and waited on the platform at Prestatyn station.
“When the train stopped the girl shouted ‘Has anyone got tickets for me?’ and she was handed them,” said Jon.
He then arranged to meet the girl at Cardiff station in time for his party to take their seats in the stadium.
Jon said: “We panicked when we realised we’d left them behind but it’s all worked out fine in the end.”
