PUPILS have been clearing clutter around a Wrexham school.
The grounds and surrounding areas of St Christopher’s Special School have been victim to a high level of littering over the winter.
Pupils got together with Hermitage councillor Graham Rogers and PCSO Sarah Clarke to clear the rubbish left by people hanging around and passing through school playing fields.
Cllr Rogers said: “The amount of litter around St Christopher’s School is appalling. We picked up, among other rubbish, alcohol cans and bottles.
“You can’t prevent people meeting here, but we would appreciate it if they would dispose of their litter in the bins provided or take it home with them.
“It’s annoying when there are bins in the playground area and they are not used. It’s not fair on the children when they are playing there.
“We wanted to tidy up before the hedges come out in their greenery.
“Really, it’s of benefit to the community,” he added
“The children were delighted to help.
“They’ve got an environmental group who litter pick and carry out gardening tasks when the weather permits – they really enjoyed taking part.”
