IS this North Wales’ longest-married couple?
Jack Harris and wife Jess, of Coopers Close, Rhosnesni, Wrexham, will celebrate 73 blissful years of union in March.
The pair were presented with a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of flowers from Asda, who launched a Valentine’s-themed appeal to find the Wrexham couple who have been loved-up the longest.
More than 20 twosomes entered the competition, which was won by Jack 97, and Jess, 93.
Former Post Office clerk Jess said: “I don’t think there is a secret to a long-lasting marriage.
“We have our rows like every couple, but we never go to bed on a nasty word.
“We’re over the moon to have won the competition.”
Jess, who enjoys knitting and cooking, met Chepstow-born Jack at a dance while he was based at barracks in Wrexham.
The couple were nominated for the prize by neighbour Barbara Hughes, who said: “They’re a lovely couple, who are still devoted to each other after all these years.”
Mary Williams, community life champion at Asda, presented the couple with their goodies.
She said: “We had a fantastic response to our competition, which was eventually won by Jack and Jess.
“We wanted to help them celebrate Valentine’s Day with champagne and flowers, and they went down a treat.”
