A phantom food dumper has been spreading rotten waste around a Wrexham village.

Piles of food, including egg shells, vegetable peelings, bread and frozen chips have been strategically placed around parts of Rhos for the best part of three months, a fed-up councillor has revealed.

The litterbug has been targeting bus stops on Gardden Road, and their rubbish is being discovered every Monday morning without fail.

Pant councillor Mark Owens is determined to find the culprits.

He told the Leader: “I really haven’t got a clue why someone would want to do this.

“Once I sat in my car for hours waiting for someone to come, but no-one came.

“I’ve been knocking on doors too, asking people if they know anything and telling them they could be prosecuted for fly-tipping.

“For some reason they dump it at bus stops, and it changes from bus stop to bus stop.

“I’m worried now in case it starts to attract rats.”

Cllr Owens believes the rubbish is being dumped on a Saturday or Sunday night.

He added: “At first I wondered whether someone had a grievance against the council, but I don’t think they have.

“Every time it happens I’ve been calling the Streetscene department to clean it up, but it’s getting to be all the time now.

“If someone hasn’t got a bin, all they have to do is call the council and they can arrange for a replacement.”

Members of Rhos Community Council reported there had been a similar problem on Ffordd Llanerch in Penycae in their meeting last week.

PCSO Andy Harris said he would enquire about the installation of a CCTV camera.

John Bradbury, head of environment at Wrexham Council, said: “Anyone concerned about fly-tipping in their area should contact Pride in Your Streets on 01978 298989.

“Fly-tipping is an offence and we will prosecute where offenders are found.”
Cllr Owens can be contacted by calling 01978 841083.
