A MAN has been accused of attempted murder.
It follows allegations that he tried to strangle his former partner, the mother of his five-month-old baby daughter.
John Richard Mitchell, 34, of Heol Cadfan at Coedpoeth, Wrexham, is charged with the attempted murder of Kelly Tobin at her home in Heol Maelor, Coedpoeth, on Wednesday morning.
Mitchell is accused of assaulting a police officer who arrived at the house and threatening to kill him.
He is further charged with possessing a razor blade following his arrest.
Mitchell made his first court appearance yesterday at Flintshire Magistrates Court.
He said nothing during the five-minute hearing apart from confirming his personal details and that he understood the charges.
Details of the prosecution case were given by Matthew Ellis, who applied for a remand in custody.
Ian Barnes, defending, did not apply for bail.
District Judge Andrew Shaw remanded Mitchell in custody and sent the case to the crown court.
Mitchell will appear at a preliminary hearing at Mold Crown Court in a week’s time.
The judge told him: “I will send your case to the crown court.
“Because of the nature of the charges, you will understand that I cannot deal with them in this court.”
