A NEW convenience store could spring up on a disused village site.
Community councillors was given a presentation of plans to open a Spar shop at the old bakery based in High Street, Coedpoeth.
Gareth James, area manager for Blakemore Retail (Spar), and his property team members said Spar was keen to hear the views of villagers.
The proposals are to offer a bigger store than the current Spar shop in the village but an exact timescale could not be placed on the scheme.
The company is in the process of putting its plans together. It aims to include about 12 car parking spaces.
The emphasis would be on a fast turnover of service, providing convenience for customers.
If the proposals go ahead there would be an employment boost as Spar would be looking to take on extra staff.
Council chairman Michael Dixon stressed the importance of neighbouring residents not being disturbed by nuisance noises such as customers’ car doors slamming, particularly early in the morning and late at night.
Spar officials said the company had vast experience in running businesses that worked in harmony with communities, living together side by side.
