THE deadline is fast approaching to nominate local sporting heroes for Wrexham’s Sports Awards.
The closing date for all nominations is Friday, January 18. Awards will be presented in 13 categories, including coach, club, team and personalities of the year, and school contribution to sport.
The presentation evening will take place on Thursday, February 21 at Brymbo Sports and Social Complex.
Nominations are encouraged from individuals, sports clubs, schools and volunteers to ensure the outstanding work and athletic achievement of local people is recognised by the whole community.
The annual event is organised by Wrexham Council’s sports development team and aims to highlight the tremendous efforts of athletes, coaches and volunteers from local communities to achieve sporting excellence in Wrexham.
Last year’s winners included Coach of the Year Paul Blackwell, head coach at Abbey Road Sports, Acrobatics and Tumbling Club.
Paul coached his club to the Welsh Team title in 2011 and has trained multiple athletes who are regularly competing at a national level across the country.
Cllr David Griffiths, lead member for health and adult social care, said: “Amongst the sporting community of Wrexham there is a tremendously skilled and passionate workforce of coaches and volunteers as well as talented young athletes showing promise of sporting excellence.
“I would really encourage people to nominate those unsung heroes from their communities for a chance of some well deserved recognition at the Wrexham Sports Awards.”
