A COMMUNITY leader is hopeful a flooding problem can be resolved.

In recent weeks Mancot Lane in Mancot has suffered from heavy floodwater developing in the library car park, with the floods spreading to people’s gardens.

Cllr Glenys Diskin said she has met officials from Flintshire Council to discuss the issue and is confident a solution will be found to prevent the road flooding when heavy rain falls.

She said: “I am confident this issue will be resolved.

“The council has been here to look into the problem and the drains have been flushed.

“We are concerned for residents and the library and wish for this to be resolved.”

Cllr Diskin said she hopes a meeting will be held shortly to look further at the problem.

Shortly before Christmas floodwater in the car park spread to gardens on Mancot Lane and Cllr Diskin and her husband, Cllr Alan Diskin, have been praised for getting up at 1am to help prevent floodwater getting into homes.

This included placing sandbags outside properties.

Mancot Lane resident John Peters said: “Throughout the exercise these two county councillors worked furiously and diligently.

“In my opinion, their attendance and endeavours were above and beyond the call of their duties as county councillors.”

Cllr Diskin said: “Both Alan and I were happy to do what we could to help and were concerned for residents.

“Thankfully it did not go into houses but it was very wet.

“In a village like this everybody helps everybody else and we felt so sorry for people who had flooding problems.”

Neal Cockerton, head of assets and transportation at Flintshire Council, said: “The recent flooding in Mancot Lane was due to a blockage on a culverted watercourse.

“Flintshire Council workers have cleared the blockage and further cleansing of the culverted watercourse is now being carried out and when completed a survey using CCTV technology will be undertaken to identify any further maintenance work that may be necessary.

“The area will be closely monitored during any further period of sustained, heavy rainfall.

“Flooding has also occured in the area around the White Bear public house (Mancot Lane) and the council is liaising with Welsh Water about this problem.”
