POLICE have renewed appeals for witnesses following a serious assault.

A 21-year-old man from the Mancot area was assaulted following a disturbance in Banks Road, Mancot, at about 12.30am on New Year’s Day.

Nearby resident Dawn Jackson, 66, said: “I was in bed but I was woken up by the noise – it was really loud.

“I heard what sounded like glass smashing. The next morning I saw a police officer out on the street.”

The victim remained in a stable condition in hospital yesterday and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Sarah Fellows, of Mold CID, said: “I still want to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or lead-up to it in order to obtain a full picture of events.

“I would ask they contact me on 01978 348728 or the North Wales Police control room on 101, quoting reference number P000039. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 55511.”

Two males from the area, aged 17 and 18, were arrested in connection with the assault and were being questioned yesterday.
