A MAN and a teenager from Holywell have each been sentenced to eight months following an unprovoked assault.
Judge Niclas Parry, sitting at Mold Crown Court, told the defendants it was the sort of street violence that terrified residents.
Jonathon Davies, 25, of Strand Crescent, , and a 17-year-old youth, admitted assault but the youth denied he had done any of the kicking that took place but after hearing the evidence the judge decided he had.
The court heard that the victim and his younger brother were walking in Holywell when they passed a group of young men and women.
Jayne La Grua, prosecuting, said one of the group asked how old they were.
The two defendants then followed and the youth confronted the victim, punched him to the cheek and knocked him to the ground.
The victim was then kicked and punched a number of times.
Davies left but then returned and kicked the victim full in the face while his concerned younger brother was holding his head trying to comfort him.
Judge Parry said he found the evidence of the victim and his brother consistent and reliable.
He said that the victim had been punched, kicked and stamped upon. The youth had been responsible for kicks and stamps in what was a wholly unprovoked street attack.
Judge Parry said: “This was gratuitous violence for the sake of it. It is the kind of street violence that terrifies the people of Holywell.”
He said the injuries could have been more serious.
The victim was taken to hospital with a badly swollen black eye and other injuries.
He said he still had problems with the side of his face and suffered frequent migraine attacks
