THE search for vet Catherine Gowing is continuing at a Flintshire fishing spot.
Police are searching an area known locally as The Trap in Buckley.

The latest move follows two separate discoveries of human remains identified as those of the 37-year-old Irish vet.

Search divers have been at the scene since Tuesday and expect to stay until the end of the week.

A police spokesman said: “An underwater search team has been conducting a search at The Trap.

“It is part of our ongoing and constant search for Catherine Gowing.”

Miss Gowing’s remains were found in a shallow pool known as the Lum next to Manor Road, Sealand, on October 31. Two days later more remains were found near the River Dee in Higher Ferry, Chester.

Insp Dave Corcoran, from the North West Police Underwater Search and Marine Unit, said: “We cover all six police forces in the North West of England and North Wales and all of these forces can call on us to carry out any underwater search activity.

“Our activities today are at the request of North Wales Police, who remain committed in the search for Miss Gowing and we’ll assist them any way we can.”

Miss Gowing, who lived in New Brighton, near Mold, and worked at Evans Veterinary Practice was last seen on Friday, October 12, at the Asda supermarket in Queensferry.

Residents in Buckley have been left shocked by the police presence in the area.

Robert Evans, who is an office manager at Rooms and Views in Pinfold Industrial Estate, has visited the spot during lunch breaks for the last seven years.

He said: “I often walk around the pond. I saw the police around here about three weeks ago, searching around with sticks and beating back bushes. They disappeared and it was the last I had seen of them until yesterday.

“I’m definitely shocked by this. It’s quite unnerving. I have been walking over there for the last seven years and it’s quite a peaceful place. To think that something potentially horrendous has taken place is awful. In one way I don’t want the police to find anything here, but at the same time I want it to be resolved.”

Brian Plumridge, bailiff at Buckley Angling Association’s Trap Pool, said: “The police have to do their job. I hope they find her for the family to get closure. It’s horrific.

“It’s awkward to search the water because of its depth. The water is about 20 feet deep in parts, but as they go round it gets shallower and so it should be easier to cover.”

Clive Sharp, 46, of Bethesda has been charged with Catherine Gowing’s murder and has been remanded in custody until January 7 when he is due to enter a plea.

Police continue to appeal for any information regarding any sightings of Miss Gowing’s Irish registered Renault Clio 00D 99970 and Sharp’s black Volvo S40 AG58 JHE since Friday, October 12, particularly in the Sealand and River Dee areas.

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
