The scene of the accident yesterday

A MAN escaped injury when his car overturned on the same stretch of road where a pregnant woman was killed.

The latest crash prompted a call for safety measures to prevent further deaths.
The 34-year-old man did not need hospital treatment after his Fiat Punto flipped onto its roof on the A541 near Pontblyddyn, Mold.

The car landed next to floral tributes left for Christina Barchetti, 35, of Beechley Road, Wrexham.

She and her unborn baby, Bella Clarke, died at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital after a two-car collision on Monday, October 22.

Both crashes happened on the Mold to Wrexham road near the entrance to the Plas Teg Estate, where the dual carriageway ends.

Flintshire councillor for Leeswood Ray Hughes said: “It wants some serious thought about doing something to correct it urgently. It is dangerous.

“There have been a few fatal accidents there over the years.

“You’re coming from a dual carriageway onto a twisty bit under the trees where it’s going to be dark and damp.

“It’s a nasty piece of road.”

He added: “After the last accident, I met the council highways engineer and told him my concerns.

“He met the police and the trunk roads agency and they are looking into doing something about it.”

Following the crash at 9.30am yesterday, police closed the road to investigate.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “A 34-year-old man was checked over at the scene by paramedics but was not conveyed to hospital.”

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Wrexham to assist with the incident.

Moz Morris, a friend of Miss Barchetti, Tweeted: “Crash at Ponblyddyn. Road currently closed off. God, not again.”

Flintshire Council was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
