A WREXHAM man was found to have more than 300 indecent videos of children and animals on computer hard drives.
Mark Anthony Williams, 49, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges of downloading and possessing indecent pictures and videos of children and animals.
The files, collected between January 1, 2011 and June 13, 2012 ranged up to the most extreme level five material in seriousness. One video involved a child as young as six-months-old.
Williams, of Bell Court, Wrexham, appeared before Wrexham Magistrates yesterday.
Matthew Ellis, prosecuting, said Williams’ house was raided by police with a search warrant on June 12, at about 6.20am.
Williams, who lives alone, was the only person in the house at the time.
Police told him they were there to search for computer equipment. They seized a desktop computer with two hard drives, and found a further two hard drives in the living room. Finally, they discovered another computer hard drive in a locked safe in the hallway.
When searched the drives were found to contain 272 movies and 43 images of children, ranging from level one to level five.
There were also 56 videos and 24 images of “extreme pornography involving humans and animals” Mr Ellis said.
Some of the files were duplicates, Mr Ellis added, since they had been backed up, but still together there were “in excess of 300 files”.
When questioned by police Williams made a full admission all the images belonged to him.
Mr Ellis said the high number of images, plus the fact some were hidden in a safe, added to the seriousness of the offence.
Magistrates agreed their powers were not adequate to sentence Williams and he will be sentenced at Mold Crown Court on December 13.}
He was granted unconditional bail.
