HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to a devoted mother-of-three who has lost her battle with cancer.

Denise Prendergast fought ovarian cancer for three years before her death on November 12.

The 42-year-old, who is survived by sons Dean, 24, Ben, 20, 18-year-old daughter Bonnie and seven-month-old granddaughter Eva-Mai, organised an early Christmas celebration in October.

Denise, an undertaker for Wrexham-based Caldecott and Sons, even arranged her own funeral.

Denise lived in Plas Dur, Pentre Broughton, for six years before moving to Maes Y March in Mold in 2008.

Daughter Bonnie told the Leader: “Mum was my best friend.

“I’m really proud of her for fighting the cancer the way she did.

“When she found out she was ill she was scared, but more worried about leaving her children.

“She wrote us each a letter saying how proud she was of us, and birthday cards for the future.”

Her sister Juliette Biddle-Mogg said: “Denise was determined to live life to the full.
“She was a devoted mum who doted on her new granddaughter. She was unbelievable.

“Her children are devastated.”

Following the diagnosis of cancer she underwent three bouts of chemotherapy at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which led to the loss of her hair.

Juliette, 37, said: “We did a very sensible thing and held an early Christmas.

“We had turkey with all the trimmings and decorations too. She had even bought all of the kids presents.

“It was bittersweet.”

Denise died at Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham.

Juliette said: “The children had been visiting and had just left.

“She went around the ward for a walk, it was the first time she had been able to walk for days.

“Then she came back in, sat in her chair and just passed away.”

Stephen Caldecott, director of Caldecott and Sons, said: “Denise was a very enthusiastic and integral member of staff for four years before her illness took hold, and she had to finish work to undergo treatment.

“Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.”

Tributes to Denise who also leaves a brother James, 32, have also been paid via Facebook.

Claire ‘Griffo’ Griffiths wrote: “RIP Denise. You will be sadly missed by a lot of people. You were such an awesome person and loved by many.”

And Julie Lewis wrote: “Sadly missed.”

A funeral service for Denise will be held at Pentrebychan Crematorium on Friday at noon.

Donations in her memory will be made to Nightingale House Hospice.
