HUMAN remains found on the banks of a river have been identified as belonging to vet Catherine Gowing.

Police confirmed yesterday the remains found near the River Dee in Higher Ferry, Chester, belonged to the 37-year-old Irish woman.

The discovery on Friday came two days after remains were found in an area known as the Lum next to Manor Road, Sealand.

These remains have also been confirmed as being those of Miss Gowing, who lived in New Brighton, near Mold.

Police said the search for further human remains would continue and are not referring to the finds as a ‘body’.

Police have not confirmed what body parts have been found.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Pierce said: “The results have been passed to Catherine’s family.

“As you can imagine this is a very difficult time for them. They continue to be supported by specialist officers and are being kept fully updated with the progress of the investigation.”

Miss Gowing, originally from Clonlee, County Offaly, in the Irish Republic, was last seen on Friday, October 12, at the Asda supermarket in Queensferry.

The alarm was raised when she failed to turn up for work at Evans Veterinary Practice in Mold on Monday, October 15, and a missing person’s appeal was launched.

Officers spent more than two weeks searching quarries and woodland around Pinfold Lane, Alltami, near Mold, after her burnt out Renault Clio was discovered there.

The search moved to Sealand following new intelligence.

Clive Sharp, 46, of no fixed address but originally from Bethesda, Gwynedd, has been charged with her murder and was remanded in custody until January 7 when he is due to enter his plea.

DCI Pierce repeated his appeal for any information regarding any sightings of Catherine Gowing’s Irish registered Renault Clio 00D 99970 and Sharp’s black Volvo S40 AG58 JHE since Friday, October 12, and particularly in the Sealand and River Dee areas.

He added “ The search for further remains and any evidence to assist this investigation continues and I would again ask the local community if you have seen any suspicious activity or person in Manor Road, Sealand, or on the banks of the River Dee, or have any information which may assist our investigation to contact police.”

Anyone one with information should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
