A FARMER has said fly-tipping near his land is killing his cattle.

Graham Williams, 69, who owns two farms in Connah’s Quay, has said people have dumped approximately half a tonne of Leylandii trees near his property, killing a pregnant cow.

Mr Williams, who was the victim of a barn fire only last month, said the branches are poisonous to animals and has called for those responsible to stop.

He said: “It’s absolutely terrible, and the loss of a good breeding animal. It’s such a cruel death for the animal, she was really suffering. The police have been informed.”

The cow was one of a group of 42, however Mr Williams said there is a total of 140 cattle on his land, and he is now very concerned for their safety.

“I just don’t know what to think. I keep expecting something else to happen, I mean, which one’s going to go next?” said the distraught farmer.

This is the second tragedy faced by Mr Williams recently.

Thousands of pounds’ worth of damage was caused at Mr Williams’ farm following a barn fire, where straw, hay and other winter fodder inside the barn was destroyed.

Steve Jones, head of Streetscene for Flintshire Council, said: “Following notification of the fly tipping on Golftyn Lane, Connah’s Quay, teams from the Streetscene Service have been deployed to remove the material.

“Anybody caught fly tipping could face criminal proceedings.”
