A TRIO of victories made it a memorable Bank Holiday for Mochdre Cricket Club.
The firsts raced to a nine wicket victory over Mold after bowling out their visitors for just 116 runs. Three wickets each for Gareth Davies, Aussie Marcus Adams and skipper Adam Campion, who snared Mold’s top scorer James Griffiths, ensured the manageable target.
A typically big-hitting stint from Will Evans, who smashed 57 including 11 fours, set Mochdre on the road to victory, with fellow opener Joe Chaplin adding 10 before being caught out and Adams 35 to round off a routine win in the 14th over.
Mochdre seconds were just as impressive with a 77 run win over local rivals Conwy.
Solid knocks from Aamer Sardar (48), Adam Buckley (40) and John Parry (27) saw Mochdre score 180 for seven from 45 overs, with Conwy’s David Owen the top wicket taker with three for 49. Daniel Wilson, Nick Davies and David Wilkinson also claimed victims.
In reply, Conwy openers Dave Catherall and Graham Heath scored 18 and 21 respectively for a solid opening of 49, but some restrictive bowling saw the rest of the line-up struggle to put together runs, with the Castlemen falling short for nine wickets.
Ben Ashworth and Richard Totton both took three for 21, with Sardar and Adam Jones taking the remaining batsmen.
The young thirds finally got their rain-hit 2012 campaign underway against Corwen.
Opting to restrict Corwen to a low score, Mochdre took just 24 overs to reach tea, letting just 51 runs slip. Gavin Roberts and Matt Humphries made the breakthrough with Corwen’s openers, and the straight bowling of Matt Welden claimed a couple more victories, including a catch from 13 year old Liam Herbert.
Alastair Paterson span Corwen skipper Evans-Jones via a nick brilliantly held low down at slip by Peter Williams, and 14 year old legspinner Reece Roberts took four for eight from three overs.
In reply, Sam Davies scampered a quick 10, and fellow under 15s Matt Humphries and James French polished off a 9-1 win in the 11th over.
