A GRANDMOTHER says she is lucky to be alive after a horror crash.
Jennifer Hartley was left covered in bruises and with a shattered ankle after her taxi collided with another vehicle on Bagillt Road, Holywell on Saturday.
The 62-year-old from Bagillt is now set to lose her livelihood vowing not return to work after 22 years in the taxi business.
Mrs Hartley is recovering at home after spending three days at Glan Clwyd Hospital where she had an operation to put metal pins in her right ankle and she is now unable to walk.
She said: “The crash happened so fast. Thank God for seatbelts and air bags. They have saved my life, I am lucky to be alive.
“A young woman got me out of the car and a taxi driver helped me into his car and I stayed there until the ambulance arrived.”
She added: “It is going to take six weeks to get the plaster off and then another four months before they know how bad it is.
“My family has been great supporting me.”
The collision happened just after 8pm on Saturday and the driver of the other car has been arrested by North Wales Police.
Mrs Hartley’s daughter, Jennifer Penny, said: “She can’t walk, she is on crutches and will have to use a wheelchair.
“She had dropped me of at the Springfield Hotel and was on her way back home.
“My daughter phoned me and told me about the crash. I then phoned my dad and he said she had been in a bad smash and was in the back of an ambulance. It was a
real shock. Mum is black and blue. “She was in shock, it is just now hitting her. She is just happy to be alive.”
Her daughter added: “Mum said she is not going back to work, it has taken her livelihood away.
“This will have a big impact on her. We do not know if she will ever be able to get back in a car again.”
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “We were called to a road traffic collision between a Ford Focus and Peugeot 106 on Bagillt Road, Holywell on Saturday.
“One person has been arrested and the matter is still under investigation.”
