POP STAR Olly Murs will headline a bumper two-day Olympic celebration this summer at the new Eirias Park Stadium.
The Access All Eirias concert on July 28 will be the first major non-sporting event held at the town’s new events venue, and is set to draw to a close an action packed Olympic themed weekend.
The Pioneer has learned that X-Factor star Olly is set to rock a 15,000 capacity crowd as the headline act at the concert, which is being organised by Conwy County Borough Council and independent music promoter Orchard.
Orchard’s PR Director Tim Powell hoped the concert would attract a sell-out crowd ahead of the event’s official launch on Thursday morning.
“It’s a big name in the UK, and we anticipate that we’ll get a sellout 15,000 crowd,” he said. “There’ll also be support acts, who in their own right are big names in the UK.”
“It’s a big show, and certainly the biggest we’ve done in North Wales.”
The concert would be the first major music event held in the town since the 2006 Children in Need concert, which brought more than 10,000 music fans to Eirias Park, and tickets are set to go on sale this Saturday.
Alun Pritchard, Senior Marketing Officer for Conwy Council, said: “We are expecting an announcement later this week confirming details of this summer’s concert in Eirias. Needless to say, we're pleased and excited about being part of such a fantastic event.”
As well as the Saturday afternoon concert, plans are also being drawn up to host a series of Olympic themed community events to tie in with the start of the London Games.
