A CAR was found burned out after being reported stolen from outside a house in Wrexham.

Police are investigating a burglary incident on Chapel Street, Ponciau in the early hours of Tuesday, February 14, which led to two cars being taken.

Although one of the vehicles was recovered safely, the other was discovered badly damaged by fire.

A police spokesman said: “We were called on the morning of Tuesday, February 14 to reports of a burglary in which two cars were reported stolen from an address on Chapel Street, Ponciau.

“A Vauxhall Corsa vehicle has been recovered.

“However, a Mercedes vehicle was discovered burned out in the early hours of the morning in the Gutter Hill area.

“Police are investigating this incident and we would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”

Ponciau councillor Paul Pemberton said he had been made aware of the two vehicles being stolen.

He said: “It is very concerning when there are incidents like this.

“However, I believe the police are on top of the situation and hopefully we will not have any repeats of this.”

Wrexham Rural inspector Nick Evans said there has been an issue with burglaries in Wrexham in recent months, but stressed there was not currently a spate of such incidents ongoing in the Ponciau and Rhos area.

He said: “There have been reports of burglaries across the county for a while, but there has not been a sudden increase.

“We are continuing to work to bring the figures down and there do not appear to have been any similar incidents to this in Ponciau in recent days.”

Insp Evans is urging householders to be vigilant following the burglary.

He said: “We would like to highlight the need for properties to be as secure as possible.

“We advise everyone to take care and help make it as difficult as possible for thieves to break-in.”

Anyone with information should call Det Con 2805 Claire Nicholls at Wrexham Burglary Unit on 101 (if in Wales) or 0845 6071002.
