HUNDREDS of pounds handed over by fans to safeguard Wrexham FC’s future remains unclaimed.
Thirteen benefactors who helped to pay a £250,000 bond required by the Football Conference have not come forward to recover their cash.
The bond was demanded at the start of the 2011-12 campaign as a guarantee the club, facing financial difficulty, could fulfil its commitments.
It sparked a rapid response from supporters, some of whom turned up at The Racecourse with wads of cash to offer the Reds a loan.
Fans’ contribution to the total came to more than £100,000.
Since then the club has been bought by Wrexham Supporters Trust and the Conference has returned the bond money.
Accountancy firm McLintock’s is now trying to trace every supporter involved to give them back their share.
John McLintock said most of the task has been completed but there are still 13 people who cannot be contacted.
He said: “We are talking about about £1,000 in total.
“Some people lent a few hundred pounds while at the other end of the scale it was tens of pounds. Unfortunately we have not been able to contact the people concerned.”
Mr McLintock said some fans have told him they want their cash to go to the WST.
He added: “It may be that the 13 people we are looking for feel the same way, but I do need their instructions to say exactly what they want to do.”
