A MAN died when he was hit by a train.
Police and paramedics were called to the track near Manor Industrial Estate at about 9.45am yesterday, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation is now under way into how the man came to be on the railway track.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said the incident was reported at 9.41am and is currently being treated as not suspicious.
He said: “Officers were called to the line near Bagillt level crossing, Station Road, Bagillt, after a report of a man being struck by a train.
“Paramedics from Wales Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the man’s identity and the full circumstances of the incident, including how he came to be on the tracks.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed the man was dead when paramedics arrived and the train driver was checked over at the scene.
Arriva Trains Wales said the train involved was the 8.45am Llandudno to Manchester service.
Passengers remained on the train until the track reopened and services between Rhyl and Chester were severely disrupted.
Bus replacement services were arranged and trains were back up and running at about 11am although there were some delays while services recovered.
A company spokesman said: “The Llandudno to Manchester Arriva Trains Wales service was involved in a fatality between Prestatyn and Flint at approximately 9.30am.
“The train involved required engineers’ attention before it went forward to Chester at reduced speed.”
Staff at nearby businesses were left shocked by the incident.
One worker, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s very grim. I came to work just after 10am and saw two trains on the track.
“There were lots of police and people crowding around. It’s a shocking thing.”
