HOLLYWOOD star Val Kilmer will not be making a scheduled appearance at this weekend's Comic Con organisers have confirmed.

The event, held at Wrexham's Glyndwr University, is one of the most popular on the Comic Con calendar in the UK and across Europe, and will see thousands of fantasy fans descend on the town centre.

Kilmer, 58, famous for portraying Batman and his roles as Ice Man in Top Gun, Jim Morrisson in The Doors and Madmartigan in Willow, was one of the biggest names on the bill, but organisers confirmed he would not be coming in a tweet posted on Thursday morning.

It read: "We are truly sorry to confirm @valkilmer can no longer attend the event - We received confirmation late last night that due to circumstances beyond our control Val will no longer be able to attend the event. Any photo ops will be refunded automatically."

The news is a further blow to the event after Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin and wrestler Rey Misterio were also forced to pull out of the event due to illness.

Other well known actors including Andrew Scott, Billy Zane, Paul McGann and Warwick Davis were all still expected to appear.

Alongside the chance to meet their heroes, visitors to the convention can view exhibitions and take part in question and answer sessions and gaming.

The event appeals to visitors of all ages many of whom dress up as their favourite characters having travelled from across the UK and Europe.
