THIS year’s Wales Comic Con events look set to be the most successful yet.

Organiser Jaime Milner said tickets sales for this year’s Part One event at Glyndwr University on April 21-22 had been the highest yet in terms of pre-orders and, with more fans expected to buy tickets on the day, more than 10,000 people are expected to attend.

The biannual event will mark Wales Comic Con’s 10th anniversary.

Pop culture aficionados can expect a wealth of attractions including celebrity guests, an expanded video games section and more merchandise stalls.

The comic con has grown from around 100 attendees at the first event in 2008 to thousands of people attending from across Europe and even across the Atlantic.

Mr Milner put the event’s growth down to his team’s determination, hard work and self-belief.

He said: “It really has been a long and very hard road but over the course of the last decade we made it work and the attendees are the most loyal you will find.

“There is a lot of love for the event and it has firmly put Wrexham on the map being the largest biannual event taking place consistently year after year.”

More than 40 guests are due to meet fans at the event, including wrestling legends DDP and Rey Mysterio, boxing hero Frank Bruno, Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz, actors from hit TV shows such Gotham and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

There will also be a chance to meet top comic book artists including Neil Edwards and John Paul Bove.

This year’s Wales Comic Con Part One will also boast video game tournaments at the Student Guild, with global brand Ubisoft on hand with some surprises for guests over the weekend.

There will also be cosplay competitions, celebrity question and answer panels, photograph sessions among other activities.

Wales Comic Con Part Two will be held at the university on December 1-2.

Hellboy and Sons of anarchy start Ron Perlman is the first guest to be announced for the winter event.

Mr Milner told of plans to further expand the comic con for future events.

He said: “ There are always plans to expand, we just have to work with Glyndwr University on various ideas that we both come up with to see where we can grow next.

“The two day format is working well for us but we are already in talks with bringing even bigger celebrity guests, companies, displays and activities for our second celebration later in the year.”
