A NUCLEAR bunker turned record studio will be the setting for a TV talent show audition.

ROC2 Studios will welcome aspiring singing stars from 4-6pm on Thursday, April 26 to audition for hit ITV show The Voice.

Owner Steve Hywyn Jones said: “They gave me a call out of the blue. They wanted to audition for talent that’s coming through the studio, and after having a chat with them we thought we would throw it open to the Wrexham public.”

ROC2 Studios, which is located in Borras, sits where the municipal aerodrome used to service the Royal Flying Corps during World War I and the Royal Air Force in World War II.

The airfield came under control of Royal Observer Corps, precipitated by the onset of the Cold War.

In 1962 a nuclear bunker was built for No.17 Group Royal Observer Corps, North Wales, who provided the field force of the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation.

In the event of a nuclear war, No.17 ROC would have sounded the four-minute warning alarm and also warned the people of Wrexham of any coming nuclear fallout.

The Royal Observer Corps was disbanded in 1991 and in 1996 was bought and transformed into a studio by renowned producers and remixers K-Klass.

Steve took over in 2015 and has welcomed the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen to the facility.

Of the auditions, Steve said: “It’s unexpected for a regional studio to have a global production like The Voice come over - but maybe they know something about the talent that’s in the area and that’s why they’re doing it.”

Participants in the auditions should prepare a song to perform with a backing track, an instrument or acapela.

Auditionees must be aged 16 on or before October 1. To book an audition slot call ROC2 Studios on 01978 313 475 or email studio@roc2.co.uk
