A GROUP of friends celebrated the royal wedding in style by hosting their very own bridal dress party.

Maxine Roberts, of Mold, held a similar event in 2011 for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but this year wanted it to be bigger and better.

Speaking about the day Maxine said: "It was all about the feel good factor. Everyone was cracking.

"We held a similar event in 2011 for the royal wedding and about 10 people came.

"My sister lives in Canada and she said if I did another she'll come over. And she did.

"We had 28 brides and a Queen Mother in the end.

"It's not that we're royalists or anything, but it was just a good excuse to have a party.

"It was not just the day though, it was the build up too. The girls spent weeks deciding on the dresses.

"One of the girl's lads has not long since had a liver transplant, so we decided to head into town with some collection buckets.

"We raised £212 in the end, which we are going to donate to the Children's Liver Disease Foundation."

As the royal wedding was held on the same day as the FA Cup final, Maxine contained the festivities.

"We took the front of the shed and had the TV in there," she said. "So everyone was outside, like when they do the big outdoor televised games."

"Bloody great it was, a cracking day."

Maxine is making sure the dresses don't go to waste though, as she and her friends will be donating them to the Mind charity shop in Mold.
