SUPERMARKET staff braved the shave to raise funds for a cancer charity.

A large crowd gathered to support employees at Aldi in Plas Coch, Wrexham, who had their heads shaved in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The staff hope to raise around £2,000 through sponsorship, and they thanked all those who who have supported the cause in store and through collections elsewhere.

Karen Roberts, Paula Jackson and store manager Joe Leahy had their heads shaved by hairdressers Sandy Williams, of Penycae, and Ellen Jones, of Ponciau.

Karen, 50, of Rhostyllen, said: "The support we have had has been amazing. They have been giving all week. We've been on the tills and we've been getting all choked up because of the support has been so fantastic."

They also thanked Cafe Nero in Wrexham and Gwersyllt Working Men's Club and staff from Tesco Wrexham for their support.

The event was part of Aldi's drive to raise £5million for the Teenage Cancer Trust at its UK stores over five years.

Both Karen and Paula said they felt "wonderful" after having their heads shaved.

Paula, 53, of Johnstown, added: "I could strike a match off my head!"
