FRIENDS of a teenager who died from a rare cancer will throw a fairytale-themed party in her memory.
Zoe Nicholls, of Wyebourne Road, Radbrook, died in 2007 aged 15 after a year-long battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma.
The former Priory School pupil will be honoured at a charity bash in Radbrook called Once Upon A Party – the proceeds from which will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The party is being organised by her best friends Ellie Forrester, 19, and Rose Moore, 21, both of Bayston Hill.
Paying tribute to Zoe, Ellie told Shrewsbury Living: “She was a very good friend.
“She liked giving and helping other people and she was always happy.
“We enjoyed reading and horseriding together and we had fun at the Bayston Hill Guides.”
Zoe, the youngest of five children, received chemotherapy following her diagnosis in October 2006, but the treatment affected her heart and the decision was made to halt it in May 2007.
She died in September 2007.
It is not the first time friends have pulled together in her memory.
In the weeks after her death, pupils at the Longden Road school raised £1,000 for the Rainbow Ward at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where Zoe received treatment.
Ellie added: “We want to raise as much money as possible for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
“We thought this was the best way to keep Zoe’s memory alive.”
The fairytale theme was the brainchild of Zoe’s parents, John and Jackie Nicholls, who will also be attending the party.
“They were great friends for years and very close,” Jackie said of Zoe and Ellie. “It’s a really good way of holding a torch for Zoe.
“I hope the party will bring a few of those memories back and help those who deal with similar tragic times now.”
Guests are encouraged to dress as their favourite fairytale character and there will also be a magician and raffle for which Ellie is appealing to local businesses to donate prizes.
Tickets for the party on Friday, August 19 at Radbrook Community Hall are £7.50 and available from firstname.lastname@example.org. All are welcome.
