A MAN was ‘talked down’ from the roof of a town centre car park.

Police were called to the St Mark’s multi-storey car park near Island Green in Wrexham town centre after reports a man was threatening to self-harm while on the roof yesterday morning.

The call came through shortly before 11am and within minutes more than a dozen officers and medical staff had arrived on the scene.

The police cordoned off the area and dozens of shoppers and passers-by watched the dramatic incident unfold from both sides of the car park, in Regent Street and Island Green.

The man was perched on the corner of the roof looking across Bradley Road and it is understood that two skilled police negotiators and a mental health nurse were sent to try to talk him away from danger.

The man was eventually led away from the edge of the building to safety shortly before noon.

A spokesman for North Wales Police tweeted: “Concern for a man’s well being at multi-storey car park, Wrexham.

”Threatening to self-harm. He has now been taken to a place of safety.”

He added: “St Mark’s Car Park is now open again following concern for a man’s safety.

”Apologies for inconvenience. Thank you for your co-operation.”
