WREXHAM are involved in another title tussle - and again it involves Stockport County.

Phil Parkinson’s side finished runners-up to League Two champions Stockport - two years after The Hatters pipped them in the race for top spot in the National League.

But title glory will be Wrexham’s if they win Saturday’s final EFL Youth Alliance game of the season at Stockport.

A superb 6-0 win at Blackpool put the Reds, coached by former Everton and Chester City striker Nick Chadwick, on top spot heading into the final week of the North West Group B season.

“I’m delighted,” Chadwick told the club’s official website. “The consistency of the performance and results is quite phenomenal in comparison to where they were previously.

“I speak to the players a lot about how their result on a Saturday only comes due to their working week, the work that is done on a Monday until Friday is the most important, and the Saturday is an opportunity to showcase that work.

“The consistency of their daily habits is the reason that they are getting outstanding results at the moment.

“It’s not the odd occasion, we are consistently winning games and winning them emphatically, I speak regularly about the winning mentality of the club, and what a great stage the club is at currently.”

Chadwick also poured praise on first team boss Parkinson, adding: “The manager has instilled that winning mentality at the club - it is great for me to pass on the key messages and be able to impress the same culture within the Academy.

“It is a vital part for us moving forward to be able to carry that mentality from the first team to the academy. I have to thank the first team staff for being so open and engaging with myself to be able to progress those values into the academy.”

“Expectations were to get it up and running this season, and we’re miles ahead of where we should be at this stage,” added Chadwick.

“The achievement is monumental, and I have to say that is credit to the players and the staff who have worked diligently to develop these players as quickly as possible and maximise their potential in the shortest period of time.

“I think that what we have inherited is an outstanding group of young people. We’ve had no issues whatsoever with behaviour and discipline at all.

“They all want to come into the football club and develop and work hard to better themselves – there’s no ego, no attitudes, it’s a very humble and positive environment that we have managed to create.”

Wrexham followed up their 4-2 victory at Walsall, where captain Harry Ashfield bagged a double, by hitting Blackpool for six.

James Rainbird opened the scoring after just eight minutes and he added a second before the break.

Callum Edwards and Mikey Hayman also netted and Ashfield kept his nerve from the spot with two penalties, both earned by man of the match Rainbird.

That sets Wrexham up for Saturday’s big showdown with Stockport. Preston are the only side capable of catching the young Reds, but they are two points off top spot ahead of their home game with Walsall.

Wrexham U14s are already celebrating after finishing top of the FAW Academy League.

And they did it in style winning 6-1 at second-placed The New Saints where man of the match Kai Crofts hit a hat-trick.

Connah’s Quay enjoyed a big win over the FAW Girls U16s side. Kai Davies fired in four with Theo Spray grabbed three goals and three assists.

Caiden Baker-Williams, Finlay Geary, Dylan Custado and Jake Pendlebury netted in a 4-1 win for Airbus at Caernarfon,

Nomads won the U15s title on goal difference from TNS but it was the other way around in the U13s League, where the Saints finished off with a double-figure win at Aberystwyth Town.

Airbus beat Caernarfon Town 3-1 thanks to Alfie Edwards, Joe Farrell and Jack Melia.

Caernarfon were U12s League champions after finishing with a 5-0 success over Airbus.

Goalkeeper Tommy Warren scored a hat-trick in Nomads’ 9-1 win over the FAW Girls U14s side. Alex Kolodziejski also hit three with Mason Boulton (2) and Joshua Patton also scoring.

Caernarfon also finished on top spot in the U16s League after a 0-0 draw at Airbus was enough to go a point clear of TNS.
