FLINT MOUNTAIN manager Aden Shannon believed all along that it would be his side or tonight’s hosts Llay Welfare who would end the season as Ardal North West League leaders.

Flint head to The Ring tonight on top spot but the title is in Llay’s hands and if they win their remaining five games they will be crowned champions.

Llay manager Mike Gadie, whose side have won 12 and lost only once in their 15 league games in 2024, says his biggest concern tonight is who he leaves out.

“This has been the hardest squad pick of the season and unfortunately we’ve had to disappoint some lads this week,” said Gadie after Saturday’s 4-0 win at Y Felinheli.

“One thing I can promise is this will be an absolute cracker of a match.”

Mountain manager Shannon, whose side went down 1-0 at Holyhead Hotspur on Saturday, said: “It’s a massive game but one we are really looking forward to.

“I always said it would be us or Llay to win it. And that’s not disrespecting any other team in our league as there’s been no easy games this season.”

Shannon has total respect for Llay’s management team of Mike Gadie and Steve Halliwell and added: “Knowing Gadie and Hag, I just knew they would be up there.

“I have got a lot of respect for them both and it’s great to see them do well but it’s us who need the three points.

“Both clubs have put themselves in a massive position in the league and credit to both sets of players.”

Flint’s 18-goal top scorer Mike Hayes will be the man Llay have to keep quiet while the Mountain men must be wary of Jon Collo, who has bagged five in the last two games.

Rhyl 1879, who have thrown away their promotion bid since the turn of the year, complete their campaign at Llangefni Town while Llanrwst United, Llannefydd and Nantlle Vale have home games against Conwy Borough, St Asaph City and Bethesda Athletic respectively.

Llanuwchllyn are battling it out for runners-up spot in the North East League.

Second-placed Llanuwchllyn host second-bottom Llanrhaeadr while Bow Street go to Builth Wells tonight.

Llandrindod Wells host Radnor Valley while Cefn Albion’s quest for a top-six finish continues with a home game against Llanfair United.

“Saturday was a game to forget,” said Cefn coach Ian Andrews after a 5-1 thrashing at Llandrindod Wells.

“First 15 minutes we were fantastic, but then pressed the self destruct button and it turned out to be a very poor performance.

“The games are coming thick and fast at the moment. We have picked up four-or-five injuries and we’re patching players up to get a side out for each game. Llanfair will be another test of character for the lads who will want to bounce back.”

In the FAW Reserves North League, Mold Alex go to Denbigh Town while in the Tier 3 League, Llangollen Town host Llanrwst United.
