FIREFIGHTERS remained at the scene of a blaze at a chemical plant in Mold overnight and a road closure remains in place this morning, (Wednesday, May 1) motorists are warned.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to a large blaze at the Synthite chemical plant in Mold shortly after 2pm on Tuesday. 

Multiple explosions followed the outbreak of the fire and people living nearby urged to keep windows and doors closed.

Police closed the A541 Denbigh Road near the Synthite site and one person taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

There was a multi-agency response to fire, including Public Health Wales and Natural Resources Wales. 

Late last night, in a post on social media, the fire service said: "Operations will continue overnight at the scene of the factory fire on Denbigh Road, Mold.

"We continue to advise residents to keep their windows and doors closed and switch off air conditioning whilst crews remain in the area. Thank you for your ongoing co-operation.

In addition, North Wales Police has confirmed this morning that the A541 Denbigh Road will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

"In relation to the fire that started yesterday on the outskirts of Mold, the A541 Denbigh Road will remain closed for the foreseeable future which will impact on morning traffic," they said.

"Diversions will remain in place. Please avoid the area if possible."
