Wrexham Carnival of Words

Wrexham Library and Information service and Wrexham Carnival of Words would like to thank everyone who attended their recent literary festival. It was a great success and we had some very positive feedback. We'd also like to thank all of the authors, sponsors, interviewers and participants for their amazing efforts and support. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

Tir na n-Og Scheme

Every year, schools and book clubs across Wales take part in the Tir na n-Og Shadowing Scheme, with the Readers' Choice Award for the book that receives the most votes from children and young people. If you'd like to read any of the shortlisted books, we have them on display at Brynteg Library. You can also take part in the Tir na n-Og treasure hunt whilst visiting the library - the clue cards are hidden amongst the shelves!

Knit and Natter

Knitting isn't just about creating new cardigans or socks; research has found it can reduce depression and anxiety, slow down the onset of dementia, distract from chronic pain and can lower your heart rate by 11 beats per minute. Throw in a dollop of a good old natter in a comfortable and relaxed environment and you could be on your way to improving your health and wellbeing. Wrexham Library have started a new Knit and Natter group, they meet every Monday 2pm-4pm and knitters of all ages and abilities are welcome. If you'd like to join a Knit and Natter group but can't make this date, then sessions take place in Cefn Mawr, Coedpoeth, Ruabon and Rhos libraries on a weekly basis. So whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter why not join these groups, where a warm welcome and a cup of tea awaits you?

Brynteg Library and Broughton District History Group

Brynteg Library and Broughton District History Group have joined together to combine their local historical photographs and documents. A new local history archive room has been established at the library, with the aim of helping people who want to research information about the Broughton Community area. The area consists of the villages of Brynteg, Caego, Lodge, Moss, New Broughton and Southsea. Sources of information are varied and include documents; maps; photographs; newspaper clippings; diaries; birth, marriage and death records; audio, film and video records. These resources are currently being indexed and stored on a computer database for easy access. If you're doing research, or if you have any information which you think may be useful to us, then please come along to the library. Members of the History Group meet in the library most Thursdays 2pm-5pm and, together with the library staff, will be more than happy to help!

Weaving sticks in Overton Library

Weaving sticks are a set of wooden sticks that are smooth and have a hole at one end. They are also usually tapered at the opposite end of the hole to make it easier to slide the weft yarn on. If you've ever wondered what or how to use weaving sticks, then please pop along to Overton Library on Wednesday, May 15 between 2pm-4pm and see how it's done. This is a free demonstration and there is no need to book.

Ar noson seremoni BAFTA, bygythwyd Menna Beynon sy'n Bennaeth Corff yr Iaith Gymraeg gan ei hen gariad oedd yng Ngholeg Aberystwyth gyda hi. Tynnoddd Menna allan o brotestiadau lle laniodd Trystan yn y carchar. Roedd Menna wrthi yn gweithio mewn sawl swydd bras yn y brif ddinas. Mae'r stori yn symud yn gyflym rhwng Rhiwbeina a Chwm Tawe, Pontcanna a Phorthcawl, Neuadd Pantycelyn a oriel gelf Martin Tinney, lle mae Menna'n taro ar hen gariad arall dros wydyr o Chardonnay lliw gwenith. Nofel ysgafn ond llawn tensiwn sy'n symud rhwng y Gymru gorfforaethol a Chymru fwy gwerinol Pentawe gan gynnig darlun ehangach o fywyd crachach Cymraeg Caerdydd.
