MS for Alyn and Deeside

It was lovely to return to my former primary school, Ysgol Bryn Deva in Connah’s Quay last week.

This was the perfect opportunity to congratulate the school on their recent excellent Estyn report. Carried out in January, the report underlines Ysgol Bryn Deva’s commitment to ‘developing hearts and minds’.

Pupils at the school excel particularly in developing literacy skills, with innovative teaching methods enabling them to engage deeply with their learning.

A huge well done to Head Teachers Mrs Burrows, the whole staffing team and all the Ysgol Bryn Deva pupils for their hard work and dedication!

In the Senedd, I have been highlighting the manufacturing industry in North East Wales.

We are home to one of the most highly skilled workforces in the world as well as highly competitive supply chains.

We also have research and development capability at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Broughton, which is vital to work like Airbus's Wing of Tomorrow project.

It is for these reasons that Deeside continues to be the heart of manufacturing in Wales and continue to attract new high-tech manufacturing.

As we look towards a carbon-neutral future, large employers are looking at the supply chains and their ability to decarbonise. For suppliers, their ability to decarbonise will come down to the support available.

I was pleased to be able to ask the newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for the Economy what support the Welsh Government has in place. Both the Development Bank of Wales and Business Wales are here to support businesses with funding and resources, with a focus on sustainability.

I am always keen to meet new businesses in Alyn and Deeside and discuss how I can support you going forward.

Please get in touch with my office by emailing jack.sargeant@senedd.wales if you would like to arrange a visit.

We are fast approaching the Police and Crime Commissioner elections on Thursday the 2nd of May. Please remember you will need to bring photo ID to the polling station in order to vote.
